Casual/On Call Support Worker
Department: Care & Programs
Reports To: Senior Manager of Care, Intake and Extended Services & Senior Manager of Programs
JOB DESCRIPTION
The goal of the Support Worker is to assist in both the Day Program and the Residential Home, on a casual/on call basis.
Housing Program
The Support Worker will assist each participant in our housing program by creating a safe environment where the participants are supported to increase their awareness of healthy decision making, utilize life skills and implement coping strategies learned through their therapy and programming. The residential worker will also maintain all house rules daily to ensure the protection of each participant’s emotional and physical safety.
Day Program
The support worker will assist with programming in office (in case of shutdown due to COVID, programming will take place virtually over zoom), once a week in the house for nutrition and on days where there is a planned external outing. The program facilitator maintains a safe learning environment where the participants feel comfortable working on their class programming and recovery. The program facilitator leads safe discussions amongst participants during class work, assists with individual open studies and engages participants in their individual recovery through programming. The program facilitator will ensure that all program rules are met and followed on a daily basis, including cleaning tasks and proper attire.
RESPONSIBILITIES
House Program:
• Transport participants Monday through Thursday to and from program
• Transport participants to extra-circular activities
• Support participants with nightly meal preparation, cleaning duties and regular hygiene
• Maintain all house rules daily
• Support with Grocery Shopping
• Respond to crisis situations appropriately and in a timely manner
• Engage with participants to support their well-being, encourage life skills and healthy decision making
• Preserve a home space that always implements emotional and physical safety
• Dispense medications to each participant
Day Program:
• Complete class reports within 24 hours of each program day
• Update class binders at the end of each class
• Lesson plan each day to ensure program materials are ready for class
• Facilitate daily programs
HOURS/SCHEDULE
Casual/On Call
QUALIFICATIONS
• Social Service Worker Degree/Diploma or Post-Secondary education in a related Human Services field
• 3-5 years of front-line experience working with youth and vulnerable populations
• Work related experience should include experience supporting survivors of domestic human trafficking
• Experience applying trauma-informed care
• Lived experience is an asset
CERTIFICATIONS
• First Aid/CPR certification
• Current Police Check with a vulnerable sector screening
• Valid driver’s license with a clean driver’s abstract and liability insurance
• ASIST Training
• NVCI or CPI Training
• Mental Health First Aid is an asset
PART-Time Program Facilitator

RESPONSIBILITIES

- Meet with Senior Manager of Programs on a weekly basis to discuss participant’s progress
- Lesson plan each day to ensure program materials are ready for class
- Facilitate daily programs
HOURS/SCHEDULE
Three days a week; 8:30am to 3:00pm
Total hours: 19.5 hrs/week
